EDI’s experience, resources, expertise and network is effectively marshalled to ensure that the Centre serves as a repository of knowledge, information and strategic plans.
Services
In consonance with the objectives, the services of the Centre will focus on;
- Providing technical, managerial and functional support to organizations involved in cluster development.
- Formulation action plans for cluster development in other countries along with relevant stakeholders.
- Conducting periodic workshops for developing implementable schemata and mechanisms for enhancing competitiveness of SMEs at national and international levels.
- Conducting sensitization workshops and seminars for policy makers so as to ensure policy level interventions, leading to creation of a conducive environment for growth of globally competitive clusters.
- Build/improve capacities of cluster development executives and organizations involved in cluster development.
- Conducting research and documentation on innovations in the field, in addition to evaluation studies.
- Provide interactive forum and promoting networks between various ministries, institutions, stakeholders and implementing agencies.
- Offering monitoring and handholding support to implementation agencies.
- Co-ordinating approaches of various agencies by customized training/guidance & appraisals.
Coverage
The Centre in the first phase proposed to address 12 clusters, at a national level, identified by DC SSI, Government of India, thus depicting an apparent impact on areas such as technology, marketing, brand building, raw material procurement, networking, international benchmarking and overall dynamism. These clusters include Food Processing, Muzaffarpur; Steel Re-rolling Mills, Raipur; Agricultural Implements, Karnal & Moga; General and Light Engineering, Parwanoo; Ready-made Garments, Bangalore & Indore; Gold Ornaments, Thrissur; Brass and Bell Metal, Khurda; Ball Bearing, Jaipur; Leather Footwear, Agra and Leather Goods, Santiniketan.
Based on research / diagnostic studies on clusters in India and abroad, the Centre addressed their needs and requirements. The Institute has a wide presence on the international plane as well as and has worked in identified clusters in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam (CLMV nations).
