Rajasthan Chamber of Commerce and Industry
Established in 1949, Rajasthan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) has about 600 corporate members, over 40 industry associations, 6 divisional chambers and about 150 exporters. RCCI is interested in working with tiny and small industries, which exist in large number in the state. Post liberalisation, RCCI felt a need to extend the technical assistance of general nature across industry, particularly for smaller units. This initiative yielded an image of RCCI as a private service institute to facilitate answers to the need of its members. Such a role was appreciated and well recognised by many including, Swiss Agency for Development and Co-operation (SDC). This resulted into a partnership for working on a common agenda. Intervention so far has been done in two clusters, textile cluster, and Gems & Jewellery cluster, both in Jaipur. The objectives of the Phase I are:
1) To develop an effective institutional framework to initiate promotional and supportive activities for small and micro enterprises.
2) To develop and modernise textile and gems and jewellery sub-sectors to make them globally competitive.
3) To identify the training needs of small enterprises in terms of product quality, skills, technology etc. and conduct need based program.
4) To promote the products of SMEs, nationally as well as internationally through an integrated marketing support program.
5) To focus on environmentally sustainable development process in the region.
RCCI through its cluster intervention has tried to work with various institutes and also directed its efforts at networking of local producers.
