Saudi Arabia
The Saudi Clusters Program was initiated by the Government of Saudi Arabia to develop and to provide support to a range of new industries.
The mission of the Saudi Clusters Program is to grow and diversify the Saudi Arabian economy by developing targeted industrial clusters that leverage the Kingdom’s resources.
The clusters have been selected in areas where the Saudi Arabian fundamentals of abundant, competitive energy and raw materials can be leveraged to create competitive ventures that meet the aspirations of both the Nation and the investor. The selections have only been made in sectors where we believe that over time Saudi Arabia can become competitive on a global basis. The program's role is to facilitate development but we expect the private sector both in Saudi and internationally to drive progress. We are here to help you, the investor, get the job done.
Abundant energy and raw materials alone will not create the new ventures, industries and clusters and for this reason the program will play a major role in coordinating the other enablers required to maximise the prospects for the new businesses we want to develop. We will do this by working with agencies such as SAGIA and GOTEVOT as well as the relevant Ministries to take advantage of the momentum they and others have already created. We are helping to develop enabler areas in education, regulatory environment, infrastructure development, research guidance and manufacturing standards to contribute to cluster success.
Target Industries for Saudi Arabia’s Participation
The Saudi Clusters Program has identified several target industries for participation in the cluster development program which offer the right mix of characteristics to meet the objectives of key stakeholders: the people of Saudi Arabia, customers, investors, and trading partners.
Five clusters have been selected for development and will be initiated through 2006-2011. These include:
- Automotive
- Construction
- Metals Processing
- Plastic Packaging
- Consumer Appliances
