Paints & Allied Products
The Paints & Allied Products Industry mainly consists of paints, enamels, varnishes, pigments, printing inks, synthetic resins, etc. These play a vital role in the economy by way of protecting national assets from corrosion (estimated corrosion losses are over Rs.8,000 crore per annum).
The Paints & Allied Industry has been exempted from compulsory licencing, and comprises two sectors, viz, organised sector and small scale sector. Approximately 60 per cent of the production is contributed by the organised sector. The production during 2005-2006 was 4,48,459 tonnes. During the current year 2006-07 (up to December), the production was 3,78,728 tonnes. India is self sufficient in the production of paints.
The export & import of Paints & allied products during 2005-06 was Rs.3737.39 crore and Rs. 2,086.91 crore, respectively.
